KNOW YOUR TOOLS

Server, plugin, connector or agent?

They can work together, but they are not interchangeable. Start with the role each piece plays.

AI application

An app provides a place to create, edit or analyze work. Some apps also include agents or connectors. Start by checking what you can produce, the inputs it accepts and the account or plan it requires.

MCP server

Exposes tools or context through the Model Context Protocol. You use it through a compatible client. It may run on your machine or be hosted remotely.

Plugin or connector

A plugin extends a specific application. A connector links applications or services. Some connectors use MCP; others use a platform-specific API. Always check the host and supported actions.

Agent and agent framework

An agent pursues a task using a model, instructions and available tools. An agent framework helps developers build that behavior. Listing a framework does not mean you can immediately use a finished assistant.

Skill or workflow

A skill packages reusable instructions and sometimes scripts. A workflow defines a sequence of actions and decisions. Inspect both before use; reusable instructions can still request broad access or execute code.
